Abstract

The work presents our 25-year experience with lengthening of extremities at the University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in Ljubljana. A total of 223 lengthening procedures, performed on 187 patients, have been reviewed. On the basis of this analysis, the problems attending the procedures and ways of avoiding and reducing complications are discussed. The importance of knowledge and experience in all phases of the lengthening procedure is emphasized in the conclusion.
