Organic dissolvers from the group of petroleum hydrocarbons (light and heavy benzines) were investigated as well as trichloroethylene, and their influence on the process of embryogenesis and neuromuscular transmission in rats.
16 female rats of the Wistar species (160 experimental and 56 controlling) were used. During the first and the second gestation period the experimental females were treated with organic dissolvers in an inhalator dose of 0.5/4500 ml. Clinical signs of intoxication and haematologic changes were observed in the course of the experiment. Two to three days before delivery half of the experimental females were killed, and their foetuses investigated and taken out. The stomach and the urinary bladder were isolated from females, their young’s and foetuses, and the neuromuscular transmission was investigated. The results of the investigation showed that all the examined organic dissolvers caused clinical signs of intoxication in the gravid females with changes of haematologic parameters.
Trichloroethylene only influenced the process of development causing the birth of the young of a reduced weight and deaths. Ali the examined organic dissolvers manifested an inhibitory effect on the neuromuscular synapsis function of the foetuses, young and grown females.
