The Modification of Neuromuscular Transmission in Ontogenesis

The sensitivity to the effect of nerve stimulation of isolated organs were investigated in rabbits just born. The organs were taken from rabbits one, six and sixteen days old. The isolated organs were prepared with their cholinergic motor nerves. Stomach, oesophagus and urinary bladder were taken out. The aim was to find out qualitative and quantitative differences of the response to the nerve stimulation in different period of development. The physostigmine and atropine were added, too. The organs’ response was qualitatively similar regardless of the age. The responses to the nerve stimulation were weaker in younger animals. The exceptions were urinary bladder, where resistance to atropine increased during development.
