About the Tasks and the Methodology of the Investigation of the History of Health Services in the Yugoslav National Liberation War

In order to provide some useful lessons for the present and the future by studying the past, the historians studying the health Services of the Yugoslav National Liberation Army should answer at least the following questions:
- what and how big were the problems that health Services had to solve,
- what resources they could use,
- how successful they were, and
- what “objective” and what “subjective” factors influenced the efficiency of their work.
Since there were opinions that it is impossible to make such in-depth analysis due to lack of data, the author has tested the method by applying it to the example of health Services in Slavonia (eastern part of Croatia, between
the rivers Sava and Drava) and using only published or officially registered documents. The product is presented in nine tables Which illustrate the problems, the resources, the achievements and assess the efficiency with which the resources were used at various periods of the WWII. Special attention has been payed to the “subjective” factors which at some periods decreased the efficiency of utilising the available resources.
