Long-Term Hospitalization of Schizophrenics and Factors Determining the Chances of Their Rehabilitation in the Open Community

The number of schizophrenics hospitalized for more than two years in the psychiatric institutions of Bosnia-Hercegovina was found out. Then, we identified the association between certain characteristics of patients and their families on one hand, and, short-term or long-term hospitalization on the other. A possible interpretation of the findings is presented, indicating that long-term hospitalized schizophrenics much more often come from rural regions and lower social layers.
