Abstract

By no doubt, human kidneys fail among the organs with which changes produced by shock are often described. Very often some lesions, as especially characteristic for so called “shock-kidneys” have often been pointed out. In this paper, our own experience, acquired by a systematic analysis of 120 cases of persons died of shock of various aetiology, is presented. A series of findings, which have been pointed out in former literature about “shock-kidney”, could be proved as significant. Some findings described in literature, are not, according to our own observations, specific for shock only, because they appear in some other pathologic situations. The phenomenon of so called “large tubuls”, which is frequently pointed out as one of the most characteristic phenomena in “shock-kidney” is critically estimated, especially in the light of new data from medical literature and our own observations. The list of findings is supplemented with a description of changes in the endothelium of glomerular capillaries and the mesangial cells. A phenomenon of interstitial oedema, with and without tubulorrhexis is well described. In the discussion, according to our own material, the attitude about the significance of certain changes of the kidney with micro-morphologic diagnostics of shock is assumed.
